Summerhouse or Hide
This little retreat was a small shed sited rather incongruously at the boundary in our top paddock. I was never quite sure what the purpose of it was intended to be and it was too far away from the garden or yard to fulfill any useful purpose. However, due to some ingenious modifications from a skilled woodworker it has become a sweet little retreat with viewing window for birdwatching and seating fashioned from a fallen beech. Here it is getting checked out by a couple of local residents.
Wildlife Tower
A wildlife tower has recently been completed in the paddock behind the yard. Barn owls have previously nested in an old barn in the yard though they have been seen only infrequently during the past couple of years. It is hoped that the new tower will encourage barn owls and other wildlife. It has nest boxes for barn owl, little owl and kestrel, and provision has also been made for bats, smaller birds and insects. It is intended that a hibernaculum will be constructed at the base to provide harbourage for reptiles, amphibians and insects.
Dead Hedge
A dead hedge has recently been completed within a small paddock which is often used for grazing the ouessant sheep. It will provide shade and shelter and can be used as a barrier to protect new planting whenever necessary,
